About the borough of Verdun
During the municipal reorganization of Quebec in 2002, Verdun, which had acquired cityhood in 1909, became one of the 19 boroughs of the City of Montreal. With more than 69,000 residents distributed over an area of 9.83 km², Verdun is the island’s smallest borough. Situated to the southwest, it’s upstream from downtown Montreal. It borders the borough of the Sud-Ouest, the Saint Pierre River, Autoroute 15 and the Champlain Bridge on the north, the Canal de l’Aqueduc on the west, the borough of LaSalle on the southwest and the Saint Lawrence River on the east.
